A man has confessed on television to killing his lover and her five-year-old son, before dismembering the boy's body.
Siripong Kanchananiwit, a 40-yearold Bangkok resident, yesterday contacted the Thai News Agency and Modernine TV, which are both operated by MCOT Plc, to say he would surrender to police on camera.
MCOT then contacted city police chief Jakkrathip Chaichinda and Crime Suppression Division deputy commander Prayont Lasua, who came to the TV station to arrest and interrogate the suspect.
Mr Siripong claimed he killed his lover and shot dead and dismembered her five-year-old son.
Mr Siripong identified the woman as Sunan Srisuwan,38, who was married to a Japanese man. He named the boy as Shaw Makino.
Sunan's body was dumped in Pathum Thani's Lat Lum Kaeo district. The boy's body was dropped in Bangkok's Taling Chan district.
The dead boy's body parts were found in plastic rubbish bags on Monday at a deserted Phiman housing estate on Soi Wat Intrawas off Ratchapreuk Road.
Prathin Panhuab, a 60-year old man who was scavenging for rubbish, alerted police after he found the grizzly remains.
Mr Siripong said he shot the boy four times before dismembering his body.
Sunan's body was found by a road-
side on Sunday. After finding the boy's body, police linked the two killings and suspected the bodies belonged to a mother and son.
Mr Siripong said he saw a police car on the road after disposing of Sunan's body which prompted him to take Shaw's body back to his home in Nonthaburi's Bang Bua Thong district, where he cut it into pieces before dumping the parts in Taling Chan.
Mr Siripong said Sunan's daughter Pichaya, or Nong Mint, 13, was also injured in the shooting.
The teenager is now safe and is being treated at Phra Ram 9 Hospital, a police source said.
Pichaya's father was a Thai, but Shaw was the son of Sunan's second husband, who was Japanese, police said.
Mr Siripong said he was in a state of confusion and cried when he dismembered the boy's body.
He claimed to have killed Sunan in a fit of anger after she made derogatory remarks about him. He then fired four shots at her, but the bullets hit the boy and his sister.
"While sitting in my taxi, Sunan made an insulting remark after I failed to follow her demands to kill her Japanese husband," he said.
"Her words fuelled my anger."I pulled out my pistol to fire shots at her, but she resisted.
"The four bullets that I fired hit Nong Shaw, who died instantly.
"The bullets also hit Nong Mint."Mr Siripong said he then shot Sunan four times.
Metropolitan police chief Vorapong Chiewpreecha said Mr Siripong confessed to killing the two victims as he feared Sunan would hire a gunman to kill him.
Police are convinced Mr Siripong was the murderer. Assistant national police chief Asawin Kwanmuang said the gun shots on the two bodies and the girl showed Mr Siripong had intended to kill all three.
He said the intent was clear as Mr Siripong must have reloaded his gun.The firearm could only hold seven bullets but a total of 14 rounds were fired.
Before contacting the media, Mr Siripong had set pre-conditions for his surrender.
He did not want police to handcuff him while searching his Bang Bua Thong home.
He did not want any bystanders present during the interrogation and the police must return his taxi.
